Letter to parents - End of Spring Term 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
Well we have finally got to the end of term and I know it’s been a challenge for many of you on so many levels. Although we have been unable to get the usual end of term newsletter written for you because of the current situation, I wanted to take a moment to send you all my very best wishes at this difficult time.
I also wanted to let you know about some of the things that are still happening within school. You will be pleased to know that there are still building works going on in school. The first hygiene suite refurb is taking shape with work continuing over the last couple of weeks. I’m confident that we are near to completion with that one and hopefully the next suite will start to be worked on in the weeks ahead.
The swimming pool refurb has also started this week with the contractors and engineers coming onto site to inspect the areas and start their preliminary works.
A digger has also arrived in school this week to finish clearing the sixth form garden and making it ready for levelling off. This area will have two new classrooms built on to it for our increased numbers in September. Finally the surveyors have been in today measuring the area outside pink and white class, ready for an extension to start. It is positive to be planning for the future and I remain hopeful that sooner rather than later we will all be back in school together enjoying our new facilities.
I hope you have all been finding the emails from your child’s tutor useful, please make sure you let us know if there is anything that can be done to further support you. I know our children will be missing school and the days may seem long for them so if you need any further help accessing the portal on the website, again please just ask. There are lots of wonderful pictures on our website/Facebook page and on twitter of our children, so if you haven’t looked its worth enjoying some of these lovely photos.
The food voucher scheme that the government have launched for children on Free School Meals continues over the holidays, so those of you that are eligible we be receiving vouchers in the post.
Last week we conducted interviews for teaching posts for September and appointed 5 new teachers for our growing school. Congratulations to Jasmin, Emily and Jo, our internal candidates who have all been appointed. We also appointed two external candidates, Emily and Katherine who will be a great addition to our team. I am delighted that our internal candidates did so well and felt so proud of the how they performed on the day.
Another wonderful Sherbourne activity that our staff and children have been involved in, (which many of you will already have seen on our social media) has been the production of the brilliant MC Hammer cover – ‘You Can’t Touch This’. Well done to Matty and Ian for all their hard work on this great production. It’s been lovely to see so many of our families and staff taking part and our community coming together to have fun at this difficult time. We have had over 1000 views on You tube already today and the man himself MC Hammer, has commented on how well the children did! Matty is being interviewed on BBC CWR later today (about 4.20pm,) so listen in when he talks about it!!
The only other thing I need to say is a thank you to all the staff for their commitment at this time and a thank you, to you, our families for continuing to keep us informed about our wonderful children.
Please take care and remember that this current crisis has separated our school community physically for a while, but despite that we are still one community that will support each other.
Keep well, keep safe and please say a huge HELLO to your children from me
