Dol 'y' Moch

This year’s Key Stage 5 Dol y Moch trip was a great success with sunshine & temperatures in the mid-twenties every day.

The activities were varied and challenging, offering new and exciting adventures for all.

On the first day we all went canoeing on a lake, exploring the shores and islands. This was followed by lunch overlooking the lake.

In the afternoon we split into two groups; one group braved the zip wire and postman’s walk (two ropes stretched precariously over water!), while the others went in search of animals on a nature trail.

Day two was beach day. With sun cream and hats we headed for black rock sands for a morning of exploring caves and beach games. After lunch it was time for sea kayaking. I think we probably spent more time out of the kayaks than in them!

That evening the Duke of Edinburgh students joined us for a campfire and marshmallows, before they pitched their tents and spent a (very cold) night in the elements.

The following morning half of the group took compasses and maps onto an orienteering course, while the rest climbed trees and learnt how to make fire without matches!

After all that hard work we had lunch and headed for an afternoon stroll along Criccieth promenade followed by ice-cream and a paddle in the sea.

Well done to all the students and a massive thank you to all the staff for making it such an enjoyable experience!
