Sherbourne Sensory

Welcome to Sherbourne's Sensory Room.

In 2023, Sherbourne introduced an exciting new Sensory Room designed to offer our students an immersive and interactive experience like no other. This innovative space isn't just a room; it's a place of possibilities, tailored to meet the unique sensory needs of all our students.

Adaptability and Inclusivity

Our Sensory Room is a place for everyone, from our primary stage to KS5 pupils. It is adaptable to cater to each child's specific sensory needs, whether in small groups or one-on-one sessions. Our Magic Mirror and Magic Room Systems let students interact with projected images, making their sensory experience even more engaging.

Fostering Independence

At Sherbourne, we believe in giving children the freedom to explore and understand their world through their senses. Students are encouraged to choose whether they require a calming or stimulating experience. For example, the room offers alternative seating arrangements, including comfy beanbag chairs and mats, offering calming spaces. However, students are also allowed to move freely and explore the resources available.

Discover the Many Benefits

Our Sensory Room serves a variety of important purposes:

  • Sensory Stimulation: We've created a sensory space with a sound system, a colour-changing bubble tube, and integrated LED lighting. It immerses students in captivating visuals and sounds, with themes they can customise.

  • Multisensory Learning: Our Sensory Room transforms lessons into captivating adventures. Class teams integrate the room's resources to make topics like the moon, sea creatures, and weather come to life in an exciting and educational way.

  • Emotional Regulation and Relaxation: Our room offers a soothing and engaging environment, helping children manage their emotions, reduce anxiety, and find a safe place to relax.

  • Motor Skills Development: The room offers an active space that promotes physical activity, helping students develop both gross and fine motor skills. They can activate switches to catch swimming creatures on the screen or interact with it by moving their own body.
  • Cognitive Skills Development: Our diverse activities challenge children to sharpen their thinking skills. They learn decision-making, problem-solving, and planning their actions for screen interactions, boosting cognitive growth.

  • Social Skills Development: The Sensory Room is a hub for building social skills. Group activities encourage interaction and cooperation, nurturing essential social development.

The Sensory Room is a place where we celebrate their unique sensory experiences, make learning an exciting journey, and prioritize their emotional well-being. Come, discover the magic of sensory exploration with us.
